Joy Havens is in her fifth season with the New York Baroque Dance Company. She has had the pleasure to perform with the company in Gluck’s Armide, Rebel and Francoeur’s Zelindor, roi des Sylphs and Chaconne Comique in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Rose Theater at Lincoln Center and Lincoln Center Out of Doors. She began her career with Dance Kaleidoscope under the direction of David Hochoy and with the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre. Since relocating to the East Coast, she has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in Orfeo ed Euridice (directed by Mark Morris), Miro Dance Theater, Opera Company of Philadelphia (L’efant et les sortileges, La Traviata, Orphee & Eurydice) and completed a nine-city tour of India with Thresh directed by Preeti Vasudevan. In addition she has worked with Caroline Copeland, Sarah Edgar/Dance, Kristina Isabelle and Rachel List. She received her early training as a scholarship student at the Jordan College Academy of Dance in Indianapolis, Indiana. She also trained at Jacob’s Pillow with Milton Myers, attended the American Dance Festival on a merit scholarship and continued her training at the Ohio State University where she was the recipient of the Special Projects Fund for Exceptional Creativity. Joy has been recognized for her performance with an Award of Merit from the National Society of Arts and Letters.
