September 29 at Moody Performance Hall at 7:30pm with The Dallas Bach Society Dancers of the NYBDC, Brynt Beitman, Junichi Fukuda (making a special appearance), Meggi Sweeney Smith, Alexis Silver and young dancer Lidiia Volkova will appear in the DBS opening program for the season, “Bach and the Dance.” The NYBDC premier of “Bach Figures” to selected movements from the cello suites played by Sydney ZumMallen is a combination of contemporary and Baroque dance creativity illuminating the dance and creating a conversation between the cellist and the dancers. In a more traditional vein, the dancers will also be performing Bach’s French Suite for Harpsichord, #5 in G played by James Richman. Don’t miss the excitement!

October 6, Early Music Access Project, Charlottesville VA NYBDC dancer Julia Bengtsson is performing her neo-Baroque choreography to Bach’s Cello Suite # 5, notated dances including L’Abbe’s “Passacaglia” from Venus and Adonis and three new Baroque solos to music from Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre’s opera, ” Céphale et Procris.” https://www.earlymusiccville.org/upcoming-events.html

October 24-26, 2023 Early Music America Summit: The theme of EMA’s first in-person Summit, “Making Connections”, celebrates the many ways our community comes together to share and grow, in all its cultural richness and variety. More than 20 thought-provoking presentations by scholar-performers will feature topics that bridge music-making, research, advocacy, education, and entrepreneurship. The 2023 Summit will feature live performances from our Young Performers Festival & Emerging Artists Showcase as a central element. NYBDC soloist, Julia Bengtsson, will be performing. Tell Me More

December 7 Virtual Lecture at the National Arts Club with Catherine Turocy and James Richman: In their power point lecture, they will use video excepts from the March 11, 2022 performance of Charpentier’s “Les Arts Florissants” at Moody Performance Hall in Dallas, Texas. With eight dancers of the NYBDC, and the same number of singers and instrumentalists, this chamber opera-ballet by Marc Antoine Charpentier has exactly the right balance for all the arts to shine. This was the original number for which the work was intended. Click Here to Register

February 8th at Midtown Concerts sponsored by GEMS in NYC Performance with NYBDC dancer Julia Bengtsson joined by musicians Paul Shipper, Dongmyung Ahn and Jason Priset. More info soon!  Read More by clicking here.

May 3 and 4 in Washington, DC and May 7th in New York City: Mouret’s Les Fêtes de Thalie, the modern premiere of an opéra-ballet that broke the mold for its time by putting contemporary characters on stage. True to its innovative roots, this present-day retelling cleverly swaps the original muses’ debate over the qualities of comedy and tragedy for composers, librettists, and choreographers debating which of their art forms garners the best reviews! Stage Direction by Catherine Turocy and Conductor Christophe Rousset. Thalie features a diverse and talented cast of American singers including Jonathan Woody (Opera Lafayette Artistic Associate), Angel Azzarra, Pascale Beaudin, Scott Brunscheen, Jean Bernard Cerin, Patrick Kilbride, Margot Rood, John Taylor Ward, and Ariana Wehr. The production also includes eight dancers led by choreographers Anuradha Nehru and Pragnya Thamire, Julian Donahue and Julia Bengtsson, and Caroline Copeland. Members of the NYBDC are working on a new project with Silambam Houston Dance Company presenting Baroque dance and music with Indian classical dance and music.
