Patricia Beaman is on the faculties of Wesleyan University and NYU’s Tisch Dance. A long-time member of Catherine Turocy’s New York Baroque Dance Company, she has appeared in over fifteen opera-ballets, in addition to numerous dance programs. As a Baroque, Neo-Baroque, and contemporary dancer, she has performed and choreographed in the US, Europe, and beyond. Her past research includes exploring the juxtaposition of 18th century French theatrical dance and analytic Postmodern dances of the 1960s. As a Resident Fellow at the NYU’s Center for Ballet and the Arts, she is researching the politics underlying aristocratic Baroque opéra-ballets. Her recent book, World Dance Cultures: From Ritual to Spectacle, was published by Routledge Press in 2017.
