Opera Essentia’s Lost in Cyprus is a one-hour, one-act “distillation” of George Frederick Handel’s 1728 opera Tolomeo, re d’Egitto (HWV 25). Commedia and the Dance, a short lect/perfprmance by The New York Baroque Dance Company. One knows a culture and era by its laughter. What is funny, curious, amusing? Commedia and the Dance is a look at The New and Curious School of Theatrical Dancing collection of comic dances inspired by Gregorio Lambranzi in Germany and published in 1716. Have you seen a Blindfolded Juggler or a man with three legs? Can one create a dance with spoons, goblets and plates? If you are curious, please join us on October 20th at NAC with four members of The New York Baroque Dance Company and live music. Bringing to the stage, choreography by Catherine Turocy inspired by Lambrazi’s descriptions, will be a unique experience sure to delight.

November 16-18 with the Historical Movement Archive at George Mason University. Baroque Dance Theory Residency. An international virtual lecture will be a part of this project looking into dance theory, performance practice and choreographic practices of the Baroque. More information soon.

April 2-3, 2027 Premiere, choreography by Julia Bengtsson to Bach’s D Minor Partita (BWV 1004) for Chatham Baroque’s annual J.S. Bach program which explores music, movement, and meditation in works by the Baroque master, including the D Minor Partita (BWV 1004) for solo violin and dancer, where sound becomes movement.
