This December 5 and 6, 2026 our virtual workshop is calling upon leaders in the field to examine the “hidden path” behind reconstruction and re-imagined performances of 17th and 18th century dance. As the audience, we can enjoy what is danced on stage, seeing both the dancer and the dance. But what structure supports the creation as backed up by published or unpublished period dance treatises? Is there a formula and craft behind each moment of dance? How does the director interpret the notation or imagine new choreography built in an historical style? What training, techniques and thoughts are demanded of the dancer, the vessel of meaning and expression?
Our team of master choreographers and researchers include: Ricardo Barros, Deda Cristina Colonna, Mark Franko, Marie-Nathalie Lacoursière, Darren Royston and Catherine Turocy.
