Valerie Shelton-Tabor danced with Ms. Turocy while still a student at Southern Methodist University in 1996. Since then she has joined the New York Baroque Dance Company in performances of Jean Philippe Rameau’s “Pygmalion” and “Zephyre.” This season we are happy to have Valerie back as one of the ungrateful ladies in Monteverdi’s “Il Ballo delle Ingrate.”
Mrs. Tabor is very active in the Dallas dance scene. She co-founded Contemporary Ballet Dallas in 2000, and has since served as one of the company’s choreographers and now, Artistic Director. She received her early dance training from Ballet Midland, Dallas Metropolitan Ballet, and Tulsa Ballet Theatre. As a Dallas native, Valerie attended Southern Methodist University, earning both a BFA in Dance and a BA in Sociology, graduating cum laude. Mrs. Tabor later graduated law school from the University of Oklahoma, earning a Juris Doctorate. She is a former Assistant District Attorney for Dallas County and was later in private practice, focusing on CPS and juvenile delinquency. She now serves as an Assistant Public Defender for Dallas County. Mrs. Tabor is also a member of the Dance Council of North Texas and teaches pre-pointe and pointe levels at the School of CBD. She is married with two intelligent, imaginative & loving sons.
