WEEKEND OF DANCE AT THE INSTITUT FRANÇAIS D’ECOSSE

Saturday Programme :
11 AM–12.30 PM – French Traditional Dance, taught by Jean-Christophe Denis
The best exercise : simple, joyful dances that will entrance you, get your feet moving and
your blood flowing.

2.00-3.30 PM – Allemande from Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s Le Devin du Village and the
Virginia Minuet, taught by Catherine Turocy
A contredanse for 8 by M Joly, with the distinctive armography of an Austrian country dance
and an easy Baroque dance popular in Colonial America, danced to a Scottish tune.

6.00-10 PM – Costume Ball, including a short performance by members of Autrefois and the
Edinburgh Quadrille Society

Sunday Programme :
2.00-3.30 PM – The French Suite : Traditional Dance in the Baroque Court, taught by
Catherine Turocy
If you’ve ever enjoyed playing or listening to Bach’s French Suites and wondered what the
dances looked like, this is the workshop for you. A masterclass on the steps & styling of many
of the dance types found in the Baroque French Suites, a blending of countryside and royal
court. You are welcome to watch or have a go at trying out the steps yourself.

4.00 PM – Dance on Film : New York Baroque Dance Company Retrospective, presented
by Catherine Turocy
50 Years of Baroque Dance by an internationally acclaimed company – a feast for the eyes
and for the soul, this will uplift your spirits, even if your feet are tired after a long weekend
of dancing!
