Dances of Venice, 2022-23
Our Fall session will be from September 10-November 19, 2022. Catherine Turocy will teach every Saturday from 2-3pm Central Time Zone. We will learn the third dance, a passepied, in a Venetian manuscript from Gaetano Grossatesta written in 1726 in honor of a wedding. Inspired by Gloria Giordano’s work on Grossatesta, an Italian dancing master, and Deda Cristina Colonna’s session during our Historical Dance at Play: Welcome Home II workshop in 2022, Catherine is excited to reconstruct this dance with intermediate level students who have a knowledge of the notation system. It is well worth purchasing Gloria’s book which is in Italian and English and comes with a music CD: Gaetano Grossatesta Balletti.
The New York Baroque Dance Company is preparing a Mardi Gras program of dances for February 21, 2023 and we hope to include this dance for our performance. Hence, this class will be looking at the reconstruction process from the perspective of bringing the dance to the stage.
Each session will be recorded and students will be sent a copy of the class. The recording will assist students in their own practice and will also be useful if for some reason they miss a class.
This 10 session workshop (no class on November 12th) is $130 which includes the recordings.
